We know what you're thinking... how did a family of hardscrabble pioneer homesteaders end up operating one of the finest wine shops in the Rocky Mountains?

Like most things around here, the story starts with Granddad (JP Dornan), and his mother(Evelyn). While she was the "official" homesteader, she chose to spend much of her time in sunny California, leaving her son to "prove up" on the property. While traveling back and forth, JP befriended many of the wine families in California, who were then (1930s and 1940s) just getting their businesses started. Their families and our families have remained close over the decades, and enjoying fine wines has become a Dornan family tradition.

Dennis Johnson, Wine Shop Manager has been with us for 23 years, and carries on the legacy from Jack, Richard, and Robert Dornan. He has researched Europe and the western United States to enhance our selection. A number of years ago, Dennis started 'cultivating' the Oregon wineries, then in the last few years has added Washington state wineries to our offerings. Every fall Dennis makes the 'pilgrimage' to Washington, Oregon, and California to search out new wineries, and re-connect with old friends. Those efforts are reflected in our excellent selections. One of Dennis' favorite sayings is, "I won't buy it, unless I have tasted it." He has great taste buds!
This last year saw Dennis 'vacationing' in Oregon and California, Robert and his son Earle visiting Washington state wineries, and Richard and Tricia visiting Argentina wineries. Dawn Gersten, our business manager and events coordinator, also made the Mendoza wine circuit.

And once again we won another Wine Spectator Award! Thank you, Wine Spectator magazine! For 24 consecutive years, we have had the honor of receiving the Wine Spectator Wine Award.

Year after year, we continue to strive to provide an 'out of the norm' experience for the wine buyers. We are not your normal wine shop, we search out the one of a kind vineyard, and continue to carry the high quality and hard to find wines.
