Work at Dornans

Dornans, established in 1922, is a family-owned enterprise with a rich history. Initially, it operated as a dude ranch known as The Spur Ranch during the 1920s and 30s. The ranch offered a range of activities including cabin rentals, horseback rides, pack-trips, and even had a small store where visitors could purchase essentials such as beer, gas, and lunches. Over the years, Dornans has evolved into a renowned establishment with a national reputation for delivering top-notch products, services, and merchandise to both the visitors of Grand Teton National Park and the local residents of Jackson Hole. Our commitment to quality remains unwavering, ensuring a memorable experience for all.

Dornans operates the Pizza & Pasta Company, a Trading Post grocery store with a full service deli and Gas pumps, Wine Shop, Spur Bar, Gift Shop and the Spur Ranch Cabins year round. In the Summer, Dornans also has an outdoor Chuckwagon Restaurant, Adventure Sports which includes bike, canoe, kayak and stand up paddle board rentals. During the winter we rent cross-country skis and snowshoes.

Our Summer Season runs from May through October. First consideration for employment is given to those applicants that can arrive early in the season and stay at least through Labor Day. Be realistic and specific when entering your starting and ending dates.

Our location in the heart of the Jackson Hole valley, on the Snake River inside the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park provides easy access to hiking, camping, climbing, fishing, canoeing, mountain bike rides and many more activities. If you have a good work ethic, the ability to take direction and enjoy working in a customer service oriented business with a spectacular view, we could be the place for you.

COOKS

Come join our culinary team for the season! We are looking for people that love to cook, have some kitchen experience, or just simply are willing to learn something new in a fast paced environment. This is a tip pooled position. The Pizza Pasta Co. and the Chuckwagon are ready for new faces with varying skills!

ADVENTURE SPORTS

Be a part of someone’s “best day ever” and join the team at Adventure Sports! We rent kayak’s, canoe’s, paddle boards, bicycles, and e-bike’s that people can take into the park or down the river. You will be responsible for filling out rental paperwork, loading and unloading the equipment on and off of the customer’s vehicles, and proving them with local recommendations to try to make their experience unforgettable.

SERVERS

Our counter service style restaurants provide an atmosphere that allows the guest and employee to enjoy their time at Dornans but also have the luxury of not being confined to a time frame. Open seating helps us get the guests fed and on their way into the park or back home in a timely, organized manner. The Pizza Pasta Co. and Chuckwagon are great places to interact with guests while making a little spending money. This is a tip pooled position.

RETAIL

Whether you’re helping someone pick out the perfect Dornans T-shirt in the Gift Shop, recommending a delicious bottle of wine to a local in the Wine Shop, or making a much needed deli sandwich for a hungry hiker at the Trading Post, Dornans has a retail position that would fit your strengths and interests!

Room and Board

Employees living in Dornan’s-provided housing have an employee service fee of $300.00 per month and is deducted from the semi-monthly paychecks. ($150 per pay period). Housing in furnished, dormitory style buildings with central bathrooms. In general all employees share a room with fellow employees. We do not provide towels or bedding. Laundry facilities are available. Internet access is available throughout employee housing areas.

A majority of the employees eat and live here on the property. We have modern dormitories; however, closet and open space is limited. Therefore, it is important to plan wardrobe and personal possessions carefully and efficiently. Our summers are typically warm with day temperatures of 75-85 degrees and evenings cooling down to 40 degrees. The elevation of the Jackson Hole valley is 6,500 ft. with the mountains rising to over 13,000 ft. This mountain climate is unpredictable and it is wise to bring a medium weight jacket and some warm clothing (it snowed 10″ on July 5,1993).

Our housing and meal plan is unique in that we do not have an employee dining room; with some limited exceptions, our staff can order what they want from the menu at either restaurant or at the deli. While we offer a broad selection of food items, we cannot accommodate special diets beyond that.

Employees are required to maintain the condition of their room and leave it clean upon departure.

Housing Regulations

Dornans insists on a few rules and regulations in employee housing. Before deciding to apply, please read these and understand them. These rules are in place to ensure a respectful, clean, and safe living environment for all our employees and will be strictly enforced.

Possession of firearms of any kind is prohibited.

Possession of controlled substances is prohibited. All employees are subject to random drug testing. Employees will be required to submit to a drug and or alcohol test under the following conditions: after a work-related injury or incident or suspicion of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Refusal to submit to such testing during the course of possible employment could result in disciplinary action, up to and including discharge.

We have quiet hours in our employee housing/dormitories from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. We simply ask that you respect those hours of quiet time and your fellow employees’ right to get a peaceful night’s sleep.

Non-employees are not allowed in housing areas. Overnight guests are not permitted.

Underage drinking is prohibited and will not be tolerated. The legal age to consume alcoholic beverages in Wyoming is 21 years.

Absolutely no employee parties on any of the Dornans Property.

A housing damage deposit is required. Deposit may be taken from first paycheck.

We do not allow pets.

Employee housing is designated non-smoking. Violators of the smoking policy may be subject to termination.

Hours & Wages

Wages are in most cases paid on an hourly basis, on the 5th and 20th of the month. Working hours are arranged by your supervisor with a goal of forty hours per week with days off of two days per week. We operate seven days a week. Hours may vary during busy and slow times of the season. Some operations begin at 6 a.m. and are open as late as 11pm. If you do accept employment, you must be prepared to work a schedule prepared by your supervisor which may include Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. You may also be required to work day, evening, or split shifts, or a combination thereof.

PLEASE CHECK, RECHECK AND CHECK AGAIN YOUR BEGINNING AND ENDING DATES PRIOR TO ENTERING THEM ON THE APPLICATION. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGES IN THESE DATES IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED TO A POSITION WITH US.

IF YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE DURING THE EMPLOYMENT DATES, FORFEITURE OF BONUS WILL APPLY.

Terms & Conditions

Applicants are considered for all positions based on abilities, skills and knowledge and without regard to race, color, national origins, religion, sex, age, marital or veteran status physical or mental disability.

If you are accepted we will forward an employee agreement to you to sign and return. Our receipt of your signed agreement indicates your approval of pay rate, employment dates and other stated conditions. A $150 damage deposit will be taken out of your first pay check. This deposit, or a portion thereof, will be returned to you upon completion of your agreement depending on the condition of your room.

Uniforms: You will be issued three shirts and a hat upon your arrival at $45.00 that will be deducted from your pay. Your are required to wear solid, clean, ironed ad unstained tan/khaki pants or shorts. I would suggest bringing three pairs. Closed toe shoes are required to be worn in all areas.

In the event that you quit prior to the agreed upon end date, you will forfeit bonus and room deposit.

In compliance with U.S. Immigration service requirements, you must arrive at Dornans with proper identification, i.e. a drivers license and a social security card or birth certificate or current passport.
